Funerals and Bereavement
Funerals are important and moving occasions for those close to the person who has died and for the whole community. Every bereavement is unique because every person who has died is unique.
In addition to preparing and hosting funeral services, our churches have a long tradition of walking alongside, supporting and praying for those who have been bereaved, as well as remembering those who have died in our prayers.
If you would like to talk over any aspect of death, funeral or bereavement, or if you would like a bereavement visitor to call, please contact your parish priest.

Prayers for use at home
In thanksgiving for a life
Father in heaven,
we give you thanks for the life of N.,
for all that made him/her special,
for all you gave and accomplished in him/her,
for all she/he meant to those who knew and loved him/her.
As we treasure our memories, help us to entrust N. to your care and keeping,
for in you is the completion of all life and all joy.
In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord
who died and rose again, to whom be praise forever. Amen.
For dark times
Loving God,
we are lost and it is dark;
we are hurt, but we feel nothing;
we know, yet we cannot take in.
Give light to our footsteps,
heal our wounds,
and lead us to your truth
Jesus Christ,
who died but now is risen. Amen.
